Trinity Sunday: Church Year Mid-Point. Trinity Sunday
links the two (2) halves of the Church year together. During the
first (1st) half of the Church Year we as the Church have
set forth the great doctrines of Christianity during Advent,
Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and the Pentecost. Through
Jesus’ birth, suffering, death, burial, Resurrection, Ascension, and
the coming of the Holy Spirit, we experience the marvelous gifts of
redemption, salvation, and eternal life that our great Redeemer King
has given to us. During the second (2nd) half of the
Church year we learn our practical duties as Christians, our
response to what God has accomplished for us in Christ Jesus.
Neither half is complete without the other. Our current task is to
focus our energies on appropriate and practical response to the LORD
Jesus Christ and His work from now until Advent Sunday when we begin
a new Church year.
We Are All Missionaries! Our response to Jesus is to be
about the Mission of the Church. Mission is all that is done by the
Church and by Christians to serve God. More specifically, the term
mission is used to denote direct activities or tasks undertaken by
the Church for God’s purposes. Yes, as Christians we are all
“missionaries” who are sent by the Church on missions with the focus
of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in some way. Yes, the Church
carries out its mission through the ministry of all of its
members – You and me included! Each of us does this in a variety of
ways. We must proclaim Christ Jesus by word and example to those
who do not know Him so that they too will come to saving faith and
thus become citizens of the Kingdom of heaven and enjoy His
salvation. We must be the LORD God’s faithful vessels who tend and
heal the sick, give drink to the thirsty, feed the hungry, visit the
prisoners, clothe the naked, and act as God’s personal ambassadors.
What is your specific mission to which Jesus has called you and on
which the Church has sent you out? Ben +
Christian Duty: “The duty of all Christians is to follow
Christ; to come together week by week for corporate worship; and to
work, pray, and give for the spread of the Kingdom of God” (BCP
